Main Duties & Responsibilities
Operates single and/or multi-die cold headers for manufacturing tight tolerance fasteners for the aerospace industry.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Competencies:
Reads and interprets documents (blue prints, drawing, or manufacturing work orders), to ascertain what tools and materials are necessary for producing products to precision tolerance to aircraft specification.
Sets up and operates, on a production basis, all assigned headers and their related products. This includes settings and adjustments required to produce parts to specifications. Selects, mounts, and aligns tooling attachments and materials in proper order and relationship. Makes all adjustments necessary to produce parts of acceptable quality.
Understands and uses micrometers, calipers and optical comparator to measure parts and tools according to set up and quality retirements.
Meets and maintains all productivity levels and quality requirements to support departmental goals and schedules. Provides training to departmental personnel for all aspects of machine set up and operation.
Performs minor preventative maintenance on assigned machines.
Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.
Ability to setup alloy jobs.
Ability to perform loose tolerance stainless set ups including 431 & 302.
Ability to train new operators on 90 day basics.
Ability to perform mid-level problem solving on assigned equipment.
Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the production operations in a group. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communication skills. Assists other group members as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Material or Product Responsibilities - Performs duties requiring close attention to work and supporting documentation specifications and other requirements. Responsible for accuracy of parts formed. Visually and/or with measuring instruments checks work performed for proper results.
Responsibility for Work of Others - Accuracy of communication is mandatory to the successful production and qualification of work pieces. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding qualify of work received or time flow of work in progress as it affects production schedules.
Safety Responsibilities - Good housekeeping, knowledge of good machine safety is necessary as well as adherence to Company Safety Rules. Must wear all required PPE in performing the job.
Environmental Surroundings - Machine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, repetitive nature of job, etc. are common.
Unavoidable Hazards - Possible hazards related to cuts, bruises, finger and hand injuries, muscle strains and burns. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, metal working fluids, heating elements and airborne particles. Appropriate protective wear regarding eye, ear, and clothing are required.
Physical - Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires strength to adjust equipment to set-up specifications. Hand and finger manipulation in turning tools/valves/handles or operating knobs/cranks/buttons, etc. as well as using precision measuring instruments. Able to reach, bend and stretch. Able to use tools required for machine set-up which may be fatiguing and require extensive physical exertion for extended periods of time. Most job assignments require continuous standing and/or sitting for extended periods.
Mental - Highly repetitive work but setup work varies and requires use of machine shop theory. Setups or machine repair may require improvisation and ingenuity. Reasoning ability required to interpret complex blueprints and documentation of a highly technical nature. Must be able to draw valid conclusions from a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Required to organize work flow for best efficiency.
Visual - Close attention to detail with moderate eye concentration over long periods of time. Able to read various precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc. Must be able to visually check work pieces for quality.
Education/Training - Demonstrated ability to read and write English at a level to be able to interpret blueprints and shop documentation. Working knowledge of computer data entry and processing requirements. Must be capable of applying mathematical operations using fractions and decimals.
Experience - Two years of machine experience in an industrial environment if preferred. Employee must be mechanically inclined and able to use a variety of hand tools and gauges. A minimum of 6 months of experience with Mac Fasteners heading equipment.
