Main Duties & Responsibilities
Plans and directs research and development activities to introduce new products for manufacture.
Reviews and directs activities for current products that are subject to revisions.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Competencies:
Identifies, in conjunction with sales and engineering management, promising areas of fastener products that address unmet needs and have potential market share available. Communicates overview of all products under development and their stage of development to management.Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications
that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resources required.
Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures. Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each projects.Tracks industry trends and competitor activities..
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, and customers.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several
abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Some travel may be required.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Design software;
Development software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software
Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelors degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related
field. Five (5) years related experience; or cumulative combination of education and experience. Minimum of two (2) years experience with research and development responsibility in a high-volume manufacturing environment with methods and processing exposure.
While performing the duties of this ob, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, color vision and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
