Main Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: Washes, cleans and dries production from all product lines. Maintains strength of cleaning solutions and drains and changes company solutions as necessary. Transports parts to and from various locations in the shop. Operates various types of equipment to ensure that processing operations are done as effectively as possible.


Under the supervisor and at the direction of the Leadperson performs the following:

  • Identifies material and processes to be performed from job order or other written instructions.
  • Responsible for performing various processing operations such as cleaning, plating, drying, baking, chromate treating and lubricating the product.
  • Maintains fluid levels for plating, lubrication and cleaning baths. Performs basic solution analysis and makes appropriate adjustments to maintain proper solution mix.
  • Operates auxiliary equipment pertaining to plating operations such as forklift, overhead crane, parts washer, tumble barrel, salt cleaner, centrifugal dryer etc.
  • Responsible for daily routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains transport pans and transports parts to and from various locations in the shop. Keeps loading areas clean and safe. Ensures that containers are sturdy and effective.
  • Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of cell operations. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Assists other cell members as required.

  • Qualifications

    Performs duties where property, tools, equipment or machines may suffer substantial damage or man - hours be lost, through improper daily maintenance or lack of considerable care and attention to processing. Operates plating equipment and maintains basic solution mixes.

    Material or Product Responsibilities -

    Performs duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentation specifications and other requirements. Responsible for quality and condition of parts released for use in production.

    Responsibility for Work of Others -

    Accuracy of communications is necessary to the successful plating of materials and parts. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding quality of work received or time flow of work in progress as it affects production schedules. Works primarily with co -workers, leadperson, facilitator and supervisor in the cell.

    Safety Responsibilities -

    Within general work area and for the safety of self and co - workers in major portion of the shop, good housekeeping is required. Knowledge of chemical safety and adherence to Company safety rules is mandatory.

    Initiative and Ingenuity -

    Work is performed under direct supervision and requires little initiative or ingenuity. Supervisor or Leadperson devises procedures to assure best efficiency of work flow. Takes on or reports for additional work as current tasks are completed. Performs other work related tasks as deemed necessary by Company needs.


    Environmental Surroundings -

    Work is in a machine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, the repetitive nature of the job, etc. are considered less desirable than in a typical office environment.

    Unavoidable Hazards -

    Possible hazards related to cuts, bruises, finger and hand injuries, muscle strains, burns, chemical exposure, noxious fumes, and nasal and eye irritation. Protective equipment and clothing appropriate to the task at hand is required.


    Physical -

    Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires hand and finger manipulation to use precision measuring instruments. Able to use all tools required for plating in the cell. Some job assignments require maneuvering to different areas of the plating, and support locations and most assignments necessitate continuous standing for the majority of the workday.

    Mental -

    Work at times is highly repetitive and monotonous. Able to follow instructions and maintain an efficient work flow under direct supervision or frequent review.

    Visual -

    Close attention to detail with moderate eye concentration. Must be able to visually check parts for quality. Requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, distance vision and depth perception.


    Demonstrated ability to read and write English of a level required in Company shop documents and computer software entry and processing requirements. Must be capable of applying mathematical operations including the use of fractions and decimals to exacting tolerances (±.0001) as required by plating procedures. Generally equivalent to 6 th grade level.


    Requires 6 months experience or equivalent skills and knowledge in plating aerations and the use of tools and equipment such as forklift, overhead crane, parts washer, tumble barrel, salt cleaner, centrifugal dryer etc. similar or comparable to those used by the Company.
