Main Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Technician C prepares samples via cross sectioning and encapsulation for inspection and testing. Performs inspection on incoming raw material as required. May perform hydrogen determination, hardness and alloy verification, as required.



DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares raw material or parts via sectioning, encapsulation, and other metallographic preparation of specimens for inspection and testing.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on lab equipment as required.
  • Cleans metallurgical preparation equipment and work area as required.
  • Prepares forms for incoming micro preparation work and releases the work as required.
  • May perform other such tests as hydrogen determination, hardness and alloy verification
  • Accepts or rejects parts and prepares related records as permanent records for traceability. Reports defective parts to lead or supervisor.
  • Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, and all other aspects of operations in the department. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Assists other department members as required.
  • Maintains all consumables used in micro prep area to ensure consumable stock does not deplete.


  • Qualifications

    Equipment/Process Responsibilities - Performs duties where property, tools, machines equipment, precision measuring instruments, or chemical reagents may be damaged or man hours lost through improper daily maintenance and attention to processing. Sets up and adjusts at complex level, all types of laboratory equipment and instruments for tests performed. Maintains and effects repairs of equipment and instructions.

    Material or Product Responsibilities - Performs somewhat complex duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentation specifications and other requirements. Responsible for accuracy of test results.



    Responsibility for Work of Others - Accuracy of communication is mandatory to the successful production and qualification of workpieces. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding quality of work received or time flow of work in progress as it affects production schedules.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING

    Demonstrates ability to read and write English. Must be capable of applying mathematical operations using fractions and decimals. Must be able to operate laboratory equipment, related tools and instruments at a complex level as required by essential job duties. Generally equivalent to 12th grade level.

    EXPERIENCE

    Must read precision measuring instruments and gauges, as well as engineering diagrams and test requirement specifications similar or comparable to those used in laboratory testing operations by the Company.
