Main Duties & Responsibilities

Work as a key member of the Corporate Finance Department, with two primary responsibilities to the position. First, focus on accounting and financial reporting related to financial statements, footnote disclosures and other elements of SEC annual and quarterly reporting requirements. Second, work to enhance data analytics to gather and interpret transactional-level data from TriMas’ divisions to better understand and predict financial results.

For financial reporting, this position will help ensure compliance with SEC and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) guidelines, supporting TriMas’ divisions through review of general ledger accounts and reconciliations, providing guidance and aiding improvement through feedback and collaboration with division finance personnel. The position will, from time-to-time, perform technical accounting research and write guidance papers on accounting treatment, as well as be involved in projects to improve financial reporting including Workiva, Blackline, XBRL, as well as business unit balance sheet reviews. This position will play a prominent role in preparing the 10-K (annual) and 10-Q (quarterly) reporting and related support as well as fulfilling auditor requests.

For data analytics, this position will work extensively with divisional information technology and finance personnel to extract data from local ERP systems to categorize, analyze, interpret and draw conclusions that facilitate better understanding of the data and can be used predictively for future results. The goal of this will be to use the TriMas Business Model (TBM) to develop a common approach across the divisions on gathering and reporting key data sets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist in periodic close and reporting, utilizing Blackline, BPC, Workiva, and other tools to consolidate financial data to ensure complete and accurate financial statements and disclosures.
  • Review and analyze key account reconciliations, providing support to division finance departments by identifying and addressing accounting and reporting matters.
  • Lead responsibility for accounting and reporting for leases, including acting as the Company’s administrator for the lease software system.
  • Work with division IT and Finance leaders to extract financial data, and then analyze/interpret and communicate results.
  • Assist in developing a common approach to data analytics and reporting under the TBM.
  • Ensure annual and quarterly reported financials have adequate support and provide external audit support for financial information as necessary.
  • Gain understanding of division operations and develop relationships with division finance and operating personnel.
  • Attend training related to above responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10%.


  • Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience

    Required: C ollege or university program certificate; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Area of study finance and accounting. Prior experience in external reporting or public accounting.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

    Other Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of financial closing processes, SEC reporting, internal controls, technical accounting research and strong computer skills to extract and interpret data. Preferred Knowledge of process improvement and experience in auditing preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Visio) required, with experience in an ERP or data analytics platform preferred.

    Other Qualifications

    Prior experience in big four accounting firm is preferred along with SEC reporting experience.
